A few words from the Pack:
In 1837, Swiss-born artist Alfred Edward Chalon (1780-1860) was commissioned to paint Britain's new Queen. His painting shows a young Queen Victoria in her coronation robes on her way to the House of Lords to attend her first official duties.
This painting became the basis for engravers known as the "Chalon Head", which were used on the stamps of . .
This 2010 stamp issue reinterprets the original Chalon Head designs. The cameo has been given a light background, and a new form and stronger geometric aesthetic characterise the highly ornamented border area. In keeping with early stamp designs, the denomination is spelt out rather than in symbol form.
Year: 2010.
