" Bluebell
Endymion nonscriptus. The Bluebell is a plant of Western Europe only and the sheet of blue flowers that covers the floor of so many British woodlands in spring is a sight restricted to a very small part of the world.
The conditions that the Bluebell prefers are also rather special as it florishes in open woodland on light, acid soil. Until man started clearing it, deciduous forest covered virtually the whole of lowland Britain and plants like the Bluebell probably occurred temporarily in breaks caused by falling trees.
The Primrose, the Bluebell, the Daffodil and the Snowdrop are among the most loved wild flowers in Britain, but because of over-picking and uprooting their numbers have diminished annually ... "
