“ WAR PLANES ~ 100 YEARS OF THE RAF.”
MNH ~ Miniature Sheet !
The aircraft shown on the Miniature Sheet are Hurricane Mk.Is of 501 Squadron. Initially involved in the Battle of France, the squadron was withdrawn to bases in Britain, landing on Jersey for refuelling on their way to reform.
The Souvenir Miniature Sheet also contains the 65p Hawker Fury Mk.I and the 94p English Electric Lightning F.6 stamps from the issue.
The first of April 2018 marks 100 years since the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service amalgamated to form the Royal Air Force - the world's first independent Air Force. Tasked with roles from defending the nation's airspace to conducting air operations all around the world, in the 21st century the RAF's mission is to defend the UK and her allies, just as it was when it was formed at the beginning of the 20th century.
The past 100 years have seen the RAF at the forefront of technical development, leading the world in the quality of the operation of its aircraft and the quality of the personnel who support it. Jersey has strong links with the RAF. The island has played host to various squadrons over the years, has an established Air Training Corps Squadron and the Jersey branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.
Date of Issue: 31 March 2018.
