The first film was shown by the Lumiere brothers in Paris 1895. Many fell under the spell of the silver screen and the film industry flourished.

Hollywood emerged as the centre of the industry and film stars enjoyed great fame.

Even today, television cannot compete with the magic of a real film in a real cinema.
