OLYMPIC GAMES 1996

The 1996 Olympic Games will get under way on 19 July when the Olympic fire is lit. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympics and the organization has been awarded to Atlanta. The programme for this year's Games consists of 26 sports divided over 37 disciplines and a total of 271 events. 

The Games end on 4 August.

At the closing ceremony in Atlanta all eyes will be focused on Sydney which will host the Games in the year 2000.
